Testing of Trawl Resistant Bottom Frames, 1 August 2000

Trawl resistant bottom frames manufactured by Flotation Technologies, each equipped with an AM-200 and an AMTR-200 acoustic release from EdgeTech, were tested in upper Penobscot Bay on the R/V Argo Maine. Two small bottom frames (AL-200) and one large bottom frame (AL-200RA) were deployed several times in depths of approximately 50-70 meters. The frames were released at the surface and were allowed to settle before the acoustic releases were fired. On three deployments, a Seabird SBE-19 CTD data logger was clamped to the cage to measure the descent rate (one on a small frame and two on the larger frame).
