Penobscot Bay Drifting Buoy Experiment in 2000

Four drifting buoys were deployed in Penobscot Bay on 7 September 2000 from the R/V Alice Siegmund. These drifting buoys are drogued at a depth of 15 meters and transmit using the Argos telemetry system onboard NOAA's polar orbiting satellites. Sea surface temperature and battery voltages are transmitted in addition to the position information obtained from the Argos system. All four buoys were recovered by 26 September 2000.

• 9/8/2000 @ 14:30 UTC - Call from fisherman that one drifter was fouled on his pot off Pulpit Harbor (PTT 17862). He was going to set it back adrift.



• 9/19/2000 @ 17:40 UTC - Call from S/V Morning in Maine, drifter 17264 was at 44 05.76N, 069 02.58W. Drifter was set back adrift.



• 9/19/2000 @~16:00 UTC - Drifter 17265 was picked up and brought to Rockport Harbormaster.



• 9/21/2000 @ 13:00 UTC - Drifter 17264 was recovered by R/V Alice Siegmund.



• 9/21/2000 @ 14:20 UTC - Drifter 17866 was recovered by R/V Alice Siegmund at 44 10.62N, 068 51.90W (it was aground). It was redeployed at 44 12.6N, 068 49.0W by 15:00 UTC.



• 9/26/2000 @ 13:30 UTC - Drifter 17866 was recovered by R/V Alice Siegmund.



• 9/26/2000 @ 19:00 UTC - Drifter 17862 was recovered by R/V Alice Siegmund at 44 01.9N, 068 44.3W.
